Ham Shin-ik and Symphony Song will hold the ‘2026 Masters Series IV: Verdi’s Requiem’ at the Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall on June 16 at 7:30 PM. Co-planned with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs to mark the Month of Patriots and Veterans, this performance is presented as a special stage to reflect on the significance of the 75th anniversary of the Korean War and the 70th Memorial Day.

Through Verdi’s representative religious work, the ‘Requiem,’ the performance aims to commemorate the martyrs and fallen heroes who sacrificed for the country and to convey a message of peace and consolation to the audience. Ham Shin-ik and Symphony Song are expected to express their gratitude and respect through music, delivering a deeply resonant and moving experience. In particular, the attendance of domestic and international war veterans and their families, diplomatic officials, and prominent figures adds further significance to this event. It is expected to be an occasion to honor those who dedicated themselves to the freedom and peace of the Republic of Korea, while simultaneously sharing the values of international solidarity and harmony through the universal language of music.

The ‘2026 Masters Series’ has presented stages illuminating human life and the inner self, beginning with Mahler’s Symphony ‘Resurrection’ last February and continuing through Rimsky-Korsakov’s ‘Scheherazade’ and works by Shostakovich. As an extension of this journey, Verdi’s ‘Requiem’ is set to majestically convey messages of death and salvation, peace and rest.

Verdi’s ‘Requiem’ is a work well-known for its magnificent choruses and dramatic development. The explosive energy of the ‘Dies Irae’ blends with lyrical melodies to deeply express the fear and hope of human existence. Ham Shin-ik plans to bring the work’s characteristic dramatic tension and sublimity to the stage through the delicate harmony of a large-scale orchestra and chorus.

For this performance, Soprano Oh Mi-sun, Mezzo-soprano Kim Sun-jung, Tenor Kim Dong-won, and Bass-baritone Samuel Yoon will participate as soloists, while the Bucheon City Choir and Incheon City Choir will take the stage together. The dense performance by Ham Shin-ik and the Symphony Song Orchestra, combined with the harmonies of top-class vocalists, is expected to deliver an overwhelmingly moving experience.

Ham Shin-ik stated, “Verdi’s Requiem is a work that most dramatically captures human fear and the desperate yearning for salvation,” adding, “Please look forward to the finest performance created by Symphony Song, outstanding soloists, and choirs.”
